Who is the most powerful person in the world?
Is it the president? Vladimir Putin? Or maybe Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, who just overtook Bill Gates as the richest man in the world?
I would argue that the answer is “none of the above.” The most powerful person in the world is you.
Before you roll your eyes, stick with me for a minute. Think about it. Who, on the entire planet, has more control over your life than you?
Now, granted, holders of public office and other governmental officials also have quite a bit of say. And those living in third-world or underdeveloped countries may be living by quite a different paradigm. But for those of us blessed enough to be born into the freedom and luxury of the western world, the majority of what happens to us comes down to, well, us.
Maybe you’re trying to lose weight. Or maybe you’re trying to improve yourself in some other way. No matter what your goals are, you are the person who has the most say in whether or not they get accomplished.
Here are some examples of goals that ultimately come down to you:
- Losing weight
- Improving your health
- Improving your attitude or outlook
- Growing spiritually
- Honing a skill or talent
- Getting a better job
- Improving a relationship situation
- Quitting smoking
- Overcoming another addiction
We may not have total control over what happens to us, but we have control over what happens in us. By simply changing the way you look at the world, even the worst situation can turn around. Trust me. I’ve seen it happen in my own life.
Another important thing to remember is that you’re not alone. With a little determination, persistence, and help from others, virtually any problem in life CAN be overcome. It may take time, but you can do it. Remember: you are worth it.
If you need to make a change, why not start today? If something needs to be done, there’s no better time than now. Do it for you. Do it for your family or loved ones. Do it to ensure you live a happy, long life.
You’ve been given one life. One shot. Give it all you got.
